about

This one has (if we may say so) a fantastic riff coupled with by-now trademark trenchant lyrics, in this case about the abundance of stimuli and paucity of genuine human connection in contemporary life... though it's also more fun than that. There's also a little bit of twelve-string guitar in there, too. This one rocks without any Bozo tendencies. You'll like it. A lot.

lyrics

The wall’s an antiseptic beige
The couch an aqua blue
The prints portray their soothing scenes
None of them quite true
Don’t talk it out, just talk and talk
In rushed cathartic streams
About the guilt you love like sex
That came to you in dreams

It’s like another allergy
That’s tingling in your nose
A suit you wore in thinner days
That’s looking for a pose

The plot is convoluted, sure,
In streaming lines of text
And clips of frantic videos
You’re waiting to connect.
A billion pages, nothing on
And nothing to excite
A thrill of almost anything
To keep you up at night

It’s like another allergy
That’s tingling in your nose
A drip of drainage down your throat
Ruining your repose

From growl to post-ignition roar
Moving out of park
Stuck on Sunset heading west
Until it all goes dark
The radio-to-satellite
Connection has gone bad
As your foot taps on the brake
Wearing down the pad

It’s like another allergy
That’s tingling in your nose
A bank of smog from yesteryear
The sun in lurid rose

There’s no way we’ll go on like this
Although we always will
Excuse it with a feeble joke
About a dream you’ll kill

The wall’s an antiseptic beige
The couch an aqua blue
It’s mostly out of your control
You say it’s all on you.
Don’t talk it out, just talk and talk
In rushed cathartic streams
About the guilt you love like sex
That came to you in dreams

It’s like another allergy
That’s tingling in your nose,
A suit you wore in thinner days
That’s looking for a pose

Dad rock for cool dads, post-punk via Middle America, or what might have happened if Gram Parsons had joined Bauhaus instead of the Byrds (though we love the Byrds). Take your pick. The person you fancy but haven't worked up the nerve to approach yet likes us. You'll like us, too. ... more
